Property Distributions and Deep Chemical Measurements Within the Western Gulf of Mexico
نویسنده
چکیده
Distribution of salinity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, and silicate are presented for the western Gulf of Mexico in 1978. Plots of chemical concentration versus potential density are used to identify the presence of gulf water, tropical Atlantic central water, Antarctic intermediate water, Caribbean midwater, and upper North Atlantic deep water within the upper 1600 m of the western Gulf of Mexico. Property distributions are closely related to the current regime described by Merrell and Morrison (1981). Also, we present values for tritium, carbon 14, radium 226, and radon 222 that were taken at a deep station located at 23ø02'N and 92ø28'W.

Diet and trophic level of scalloped hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) from the Gulf of California and Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico
We examined the diet and trophic level of Sphyrna lewini in the Gulf of California (GC) during 2001 and in the Gulf of Tehuantepec (GT) during 2005 using data from stomach content and stable isotope analysis of δ15N and δ13C. S. lewini diet was represented by pelagic and benthic prey species where the most important in weight was Scomber japonicus (27.70±4.54%) in GC, while in GT it was Auxis s...

متن کاملA persistent oxygen anomaly reveals the fate of spilled methane in the deep Gulf of Mexico.
Methane was the most abundant hydrocarbon released during the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Beyond relevancy to this anthropogenic event, this methane release simulates a rapid and relatively short-term natural release from hydrates into deep water. Based on methane and oxygen distributions measured at 207 stations throughout the affected region, we find that within ~1...
متن کاملSedimentology of a Lower Middle Pleistocene Reservoir in Garden Banks Area, Northern Gulf of Mexico: Integration of 3D Seismic, Cores, and Well Logs
The Upper Pleistocene submarine fan deposits in the Northern Gulf of Mexico have proven to be valuable targets for hydrocarbon exploration and extraction. The Garden Banks Area, 170 miles Southwest of Lafayette, Louisiana, is situated on the western flank of a submarine fan complex in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The Garden Banks Area has producing wells in the Upper Pleistocene deep marine san...
متن کاملApplication of glauconite and fossil palynomorphs in reconstructing the Liassic paleogeography just before the opening of the Gulf of Mexico
Red beds, conglomerates and salt were considered azoic and problematic rocks, but Paleopalynology and Inorganic Geochemistry proved to be useful for placing them in time and space. In the early last century, in Mexican NE region, only three Mesozoic red bed units were differentiated, dated as Late Triassic to Late Jurassic. It was important tratigraphically to place them properly as they were c...
